Wednesday March 25, 2020 Plan!

Hey everyone! We are excited that we are still going to have church… but from your homes! We hope you will join us.

Parents, we need your help tonight! Here is the plan:

6:00 – 6:15

We’ve recorded a short lesson for tonight and you can watch it here:

(Please forgive the about 10 second blank space near the end of the video, it does pick back up).

6:15 – 6:45

Ask the kids to share with you what the lesson was about. Encourage or help them to read the passage 2 Kings 4:1-17.

6:45 – 7:00

Get ready for a game (or more) of Quiplash. This is a party game that we’re going to try to play together via streaming. For full details on how to join and how to play please review this:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K6vDUXPuVQPJ56EcWtDawWgR3vy2XVarlGLGlL7_moY/edit?usp=sharing

If you know how to play, please at least skip to page 6 and review our rules.

Important: the link for the stream for Quiplash will be shared on a new blog post here about 6:45. We will start playing at 7:00. Watch here for it: http://www.elimqc.org/category/sparks/

Parents are welcome to play with us! Or join the audience and vote! If the first game fills quickly we will ask that parents let kids be players for sure in the second game. Each game lasts about 15 minutes.

7:00 – End

Quiplash!!!!!

Extra Fun!

Do you have a Schedule?

Good Morning Spark Families!

I hope some of you got to jump into the Parentzmatter: The Quarantined Family webinar the other night. I really enjoyed the input and reminders that the guest speakers gave. I especially loved Johnathon Banks advice to schedule in Honors Dishes and AP Laundry, and that Parenting is a FULL CONTACT SPORT :)! Also listening to Dannah Gersh speak about “meatloaf” moments, gave some relief that we all have conflict in our lives no matter where we are in life, I loved that she said conflict is proof of connection. If you didn’t have a connection, didn’t care, you wouldn’t have a reason to fight or have conflict. How powerful to think of it like that. Seriously if you didn’t get a chance to see it check it out, there is sooooo much good stuff to glean from it, the video is still up at the link below! https://www.facebook.com/ParentzMatter/videos/248314282870665/

After watching that yesterday, we sat down together as a family, made up and implemented a schedule. It wasn’t easy or fun but we let the kids choose 1 thing to be put into the schedule. We wanted to give them ownership of it. It worked well for the most part. 🙂 With 4 kids its hard not to have disagreements and being cooped up means frustrations happen more often than not. I found myself escaping to the bathroom to collect myself a couple of times through out the day, any other mamas feel me there? Sometimes a self issued time out is needed, once we are calm we can help them be. Our schedule isn’t perfect by any means but it helped structure the day so that we didn’t have kids lost in electronics mindlessly playing video games and not engaging with family and school work. I am going to share ours just so you can see it doesn’t have to be extravagant or anything crazy, in all honesty simple is the easiest and more often than not the best course of action! Tomorrow afternoon after our video lesson I will share with you some resources we have found useful during this time!

Today our Art/Coding/Music time flowed over and took up computer and Ipad time but the kids didn’t care at all 🙂

Sample sermon notes

“Faith Overhaul: #4- Purity”

Psalm 101:1-6

Key Text: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Matt. 5:8)

Key Thought: Because our sinful habits grieve God and strain our relationship with Him, we should strive for purity in our lives.

  1. Intro & Context
  2. Our identity and relational strain with God
    1. Holy and blameless in Christ (cf. Rom. 8:1; Eph. 1:4) “But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” (Col. 1:22)
    2. The effect of continuing in habitual sin (cf. Rom. 6:21-23; Heb. 10:26-31; 2 Pt. 2:20-22) “What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!” (Rom. 6:21)
  3. Striving for Purity
    1. Of heart (cf. Ps. 24:3-4; Mt. 5:8; 1 Tim. 1:5; 2 Tim. 2:22) “Create in me a clean heart, O God” (Ps. 51:10)
    2. Of mind (cf. Ps. 139:23; Jer. 4:14; Titus 1:15) “… But we have the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16)
    3. Of eyes (cf. Ps. 101:3; Isa. 33:15; Mt. 6:22-23) “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light” (Mt. 6:22)
    4. In relationships (cf. Ps. 101:3-4; 1 Cor. 5:11; 2 Cor. 6:14-15) “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers” (Ps. 1:1)
  4. Conclusion

Questions for Reflection:

  • What would improve in my life if I were to strive for purity? What would suffer?
  • What do I value more? My sinful habit, or my relationship w/ God? If my sin grieves God, and strains my relationship with Him, what will I do to uproot that sin?
